IC Information:
Name: Mariko Kurama [Number 35]
Fandom: Elfen Lied
Timeline: during chapter 71 - Wish upon Tomorrow
Age: 5
Appearance:

Mariko's appearance will be taken from the manga version versus the pink version in the anime. She is a five year old girl, pretty tall, with blond hair and jade eyes. Besides missing a right arm, her body is fragile and weak right now. She also has a set of small horns on her head covered by her ribbons. She wears a yellow short sleeve shirt with a green skirt and shoes.
Abilities:
The Diclonius species is a discovered race that are similar to average humans but with tiny horns on their head and currently their population is made of lolita females. They possess psychokinetic abilities that controls their vectors and sensing other Diclonius. Diclonius also have a killing instinct which can develop to another personality.
Like any other Diclonius, Mariko can control vectors, but she outclasses many of the others by having about fifty vectors at her command and a reach of eleven meters. Her vectors are like extending arms reaching out invisibly to grasp and slice. She could slice her vectors through human flesh like a knife cutting melted butter. Her strength is unknown and may as well be stronger than the rest of the Diclonius in the series, but they are a little slower. The only time Mariko cannot focus her powers is when she is in a lot of pain.
Personality:
Mariko is a typical child, wanting a family, love, and affection. It was a constant wish and hope for her. She prayed every day her parents were waiting for her on the other side. During her time isolated in the dark chamber in the facility, she hoped, grew jealous, and sometimes had no control of her emotions. After being told her father tried to kill her, her jealousy and hatred grew. This is mostly because of her Diclonius side being a constant reminder how she was abandoned and wasn’t born to be loved.
Mariko didn't understand nor was taught why was killing wrong. To her instinct, she thought it was perfectly fine. She was sadistic and sometimes uncontrollable if her emotions got the best of her. She even turned it to a game when she was up against Nana, constantly picking Nana off the floor and slamming her to the ground. Even though she enjoys tormenting and dismembering her victims, she is not evil. She only thinks of it all as a fun game, like a child would have with their new toys.
She would have episodes of emotional breakdowns, like when she saw her father with another daughter, Nana. Mariko felt abandoned and envious enough to kill Nana. This would release her furious side as a Diclonius and over power. Basically she had a tantrum like any other child would. Like any child neglected or holding on to little hope, when she heard her father wanted to be with her in the end, she drank his words. By accepting his words and love, Mariko gained the love she never had. She felt she had a purpose to live a happy life.
Mariko developed a split-personality thanks to a missile that was meant to kill her. This one is referred as ‘Myu’ because of the sound she would make. As Myu, she is sweet, clingy, and calm, like a three year old girl. As Myu she is almost perfectly human with no Diclonius tendencies. She cannot sense others, use vectors, or listen to her Diclonius’s side.
History:
Mariko is the third generation of Diclonius, also known as Number Thirty-Five in the facility. She is the daughter of Kurama and her late mother Hiromi. Since the day of her birth, Mariko was kept in an isolated chamber because of the deal Kurama made with his director to spare her life. Anyone born as a Diclonius were subject to termination at the time. Throughout her whole life, Mariko was kept in this chamber in the facility while her father worked and study Diclonius. He wasn’t allowed to see her for any reason. Bombs were implanted within her as an infant for safety measures and to ensure Kurama wouldn’t betray Kakuzawa. What kept this child alive was the nutrition tubes supporting her for six years and interactions with one of the scientist, Saito. Saito would come for every session to educate the girl and developed a mother and daughter relationship. To keep their relationship, Saito went far enough to reveal to Mariko what her father intended to do to her after she was born, to kill her. This went on until the director had other plans for Mariko.
For the first time, Mariko was released from her contained chamber to be given a task. She didn't hesitate to kill Saito because she wasn't her real mother. As a result, the first bomb was set off to tear her right arm off as a fair warning. Mariko quickly learned to comply with them and followed instructions. Mariko's given tasks were to kill Number Seven, Nana, and capture Lucy. During the whole time, Mariko was accompanied and given fair warning what would happen if she disobeyed.
When she confronted Nana, Mariko toyed with her like a game, constantly tossing her a couple feet in the air, then slammed her to the ground. Mariko did this for a while until Nana began to counter her attacks and fight back. This went on for a bit until Kurama showed appeared before them. It was revealed what Mariko was told was true: Kurama intended to kill her. What even shattered Mariko more was that Nana called Kurama 'Papa'. Kurama finally told Mariko the whole story of her mother and the reason why he intended to kill her.
After the story was told, reinforcements showed up to aid Kurama to finally put Mariko to rest. Mariko put up a fight until Kurama stepped in and embraced her. Kurama apologized for his mistakes, and not being there for her. As Mariko rejoiced of their reunion, a missile flew down and struck Mariko. A second one followed and struck Kurama. Surprisingly, Kurama survived, as did Mariko as well. When Mariko emerged from the debris, she acted differently than before saying 'Myu'. It was concluded Mariko developed another personality just like Lucy did. This personality was innocent and new, like a baby ready to walk and talk. Myu Mariko clung to her father in a very childish manner.
Mariko was in this state for a while until Lucy showed up. Somehow Mariko snapped back to her former self and defended Kurama. It didn't last long since Mariko was running out of time with the bombs implanted in her. Knowing this, Mariko held Lucy down, intending to take Lucy along with her. She said her farewell to her father before she exploded.
